On the 75th anniversary of 'JSambu' becoming parents 10/10/2017

A Short brief story from 75 years ago today!

"Jambagam...Nee onnukkum kavallapipadathe...Ellam nalla padiya nadakkum..Naan Chandrasekarapuram ammane vendindu irukkean" said the mother Janaki ammal. The girl's father Ramaswami Iyer was walking up and down the verandah of their home in Madurai on that Purattasi Sanikizhamai night.. He himself was the eldest son of his family which made worrying about the yougsters  ingrained in him from a young age. He was chanting prayers to the presiding deity Meenakshi for his eldest daughter (named in cradle  also as Meenakshi) to  soon become a mother three years after marriage ..hopefully after the 'Chithirai' star so that the child's appa can be asked to come right away from Coimbatore to see the child after the young 23 year old man became an Appa of a cute Pappa.. He had already written to his son in law "Sambamurthy Sir... nothing to worry ..Everything going well .We will celebrate a Happy Navaratri soon  and the beginning of the next generation of the family" .. The mid-wife had already arrived on time.. Being a monsoon season there was light rain outside . He had just put his other three children Mani, Manu and Seetha to bed making them feel thrilled that they would soon get their first nephew or niece.. and then the loud 'kuva kuva' sound woke up all as the mid-wife and first time grandmother proudly announced "It is a Boy" !...

On Saturday night Octobe 10,1942 ,  Smt. Jambagam (affectionately called 'J" by Appa and Sri Sambamurthy (nicknamed Sambu by his parents) became the proud parents of a baby boy weighing ?? pounds .

The delivery of the baby happened in mothers parents home in Madurai when father was temporarily located in Coimbatore due to WW2 evacuation of Chennai by April 1942 ..This blog traces the story as narrated by father to the best of his memory of other events in personal life and historically noteworthy ones at the time of war and Freedom struggle ..Was it the "Best of times and worst of times" as written by Charles Dickens in the novel "Tale of two cities"?.. Was the thrill of becoming parents anyway affected by all the tense situation in the family and external world?.. "When the going gets tough the Tough get going" is an American saying ..this probably had been a constant manthra Appa lived by.. Let us  hear what says ..(For prevailing historical climate in Madras early 1942 see URL links 1  2  below)
